  •  Divorce - Although Carolyn works on all types of cases under the Texas Family Code, the majority of her practice deals with divorce.  Divorce is an emotional upheaval to your life, as you deal with the business-like transactions of dividing community property and protecting separate property, while also trying to focus on emotional well-being.  The process becomes even more difficult when children are involved.  Carolyn can assist you in understanding Texas law with regard to all aspect of divorce.  She will walk you through the process of divorce from filing until a final order is signed.
  • Division of the Marital Estate - In divorce, it is necessary to divide the marital assets and debts acquired during the marriage.  Carolyn will work with you to create an inventory and proposed division of the assets and debts, pursuing an unequal division of the estate when appropriate.
  • Confirmation of Separate Property - Carolyn will assist you on identifying and protecting your separate property.
  • Alimony and Spousal Support - Temporary and post-divorce support may be available when the division of property is inadequate and a spouse is incapable of future support.  Carolyn will help you to determine when alimony is or is not warranted, and then apply the law with regard to amount and duration of payments.
  • Child Custody and Visitation - Carolyn will work with you to craft an order designed to meet the needs of the children, while also protectin your rights as a parent.
  • Child Support - In Texas, child support is determined by applying a statutory formula.  Carolyn will work with you to make sure that the child support order properly applies the guidelines based on all appropriate income, and will seek a deviation from the guidelines when justified.
  • Mediation - Mediation is almost always required in divorce and other family cases prior to final trial, and often is required  before even a temporary orders hearing.  Carolyn will participate in the entire mediation process with you, making sure that you understand your  legal options and working hard to negotiate a settlement that will fairly ena end your litigation in a manner that protects  both your needs and those of your children.  If reasonable settlement is not desired by the other side, Carolyn will aggressively represent our interests before the Court.
  • Injunctive Relief - Carolyn will seek a court order containing the necessary prohibitions to protect the safety and well-being of you, your children, and your property.
  • Modification and Enforcement - Carolyn can also assist you with post-divorce motions for modification and enforcement for the divorce decree, should your circumstances change or your ex-spouse fail to meet their obligations.
  • Paternity - when it is necessary to legally establish the rights and duties of parents that were not married to each other, and protect the well-being of the children
  • Annulment - when it is necessary to end a void or voidable marriage for legal reasons other than divorce
  • Termination - when it is in the best interest of a child to legally sever a parent-child relationship
  • Adoption -  when a new parent-child relationship needs to be established between a child and a non-biological parent
  • Grandparent Rights - when grandparents have a legal right to a court order for child custody or visitation
  • Name Changes - for both adults and children
  • Prenuptial and Postnuptial Agreements - when their is a contractual agreement between spouses or future-spouses to modify Texas community property laws or identify and protect separate property
  • Separation Agreements - when spouses need to separate but choose not to legally end their marriage
  • Protective Orders - when domestic violence has made legal intervention necessary for the physical safety of yourself or members of your household
